• Now
entering their 7th year, the 2008 John Pepper Memorial Tournament
for boys and girls showcase the youth of the sport from the age
of 14 and younger with all tournaments showcasing the current and
future stars of high school lacrosse. This
years John Pepper Memorial Lacrosse Tournament will take place
on Saturday July 26th 2008(girls) and Sunday August 3rd, 2008 (boys).
The tournament was established by the Camillus Community in honor
and in memory of former West Genesee Junior Varsity lacrosse player,
John Pepper who tragically died August 30, 2001. The tournament
helps benefit the West Genesee lacrosse program and is dedicated
to the Creators gift of lacrosse, John Pepper and the enjoyment
that lacrosse gave to him.
The John Pepper Memorial Tournament for boys consists
of 32 teams in a U-10, U-12, and U-14 format (8 on Saturday-24
on Sunday). Sportsmanship, respect of the game and camaraderie
of all involved are of the highest priority. The Tournaments exemplify
these goals and because of these goals, they will continue to be
regarded as the “premier” lacrosse
events of the summer tournament season.
One stand-out feature of the tournament is the mid-day break. Special
speakers and clinics are scheduled to further educate and enhance
the skills of the players of tomorrow. In the past we have had
individuals such as legendary Cornell Lacrosse Coach Richie Moran:
former All-Americans Paul Gait, Kyle Harrison, Joe Walters, John
Zulberti, Charlie Lockwood, Steven Brundage,Matt Cassalia, and Jake
Coon either speak or present a clinic for the enthusiastic audiences
and participants.
The girls John Pepper Memorial Tournament consists of 16 teams
in a modified (grade 7-8) and JV (grade 9-10) format and has
been a very successful venture from its inaugural event in 2002.
The format initially included Varsity teams before the 1st annual
Girls Invitational was held as separate event in 2006. The girl’s
tournaments are also highly successful and are a highlight at
the end of summer lacrosse season.
